Course on Spatial Statistics for Ecologists. 5-6th June 2012.
A course on Spatial Statistics for Ecologists was held at Forest Sciences Center of Catalonia (CTFC), with Marie-Josée Fortin (University of Toronto) as main instructor.
Instructor: Marie-Josée Fortin.
Dates: 5th and 6th June 2012, 10h-13:30h and 15:30h-18h
Venue: Centre Tecnològic Forestal de Catalunya (www.ctfc.cat), Solsona, Spain.
Cost: 180 Euro (includes course material, lunches and coffee break caterings).
Inscription period: 10th to 31st May (limited places available!).
Computers: Desktops will be available, but people are encouraged to bring their own laptops.
Ecological processes are inherently spatial and generally autocorrelated so that standard parametric assumptions of independence do not apply. Students will be introduced to concepts of spatial scale and the appropriate software for spatial analyses. The course will include both theoretical sessions and computer exercises.
The specific topics covered in the course will include:
• Introduction to spatial statistics
• Randomization tests
• Spatial autocorrelation for population data
• Join count statistics
• Spatial autocorrelation for sample data
• Relationship between spatially autocorrelated variables
• Spatial regressions (GWR, CART, autologistic regression)
• Graph Theory
• Boundary detection
• Spatio-temporal analysis
If you are interested in attending the course, please send an email to Laia Ximenis (laia.ximenis@ctfc.cat) indicating your name and institution by 31st May. Emails should include a PDF file with the receipt of payment as an attachment.
Payments should be done in form of electronic transfer to the following bank account (transfer taxes to be paid by the participant):
